Big bluestem has silvery-blue leaves topped with purplish-brown flowers that resemble a turkey's foot. In autumn, the leaves turn a beautiful copper color.

Andropogon gerardii is an important prairie grass because its extensive root system helps to prevent erosion. It is drought tolerant once established, but it also tolerates damp clay. Give it full sun. Hardy in zones 3-9.
