This is the rare, variegated form of kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate. The bright green leaves are splashed with cream, and the tall stems are topped with clusters of pink flowers in late summer and fall.
Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate is an heirloom flower. The plain-leaved variety has been grown in gardens since the early 1700s. Also known as Polygonum orientale and Persicaria orientalis 'Shiro-Gane Nishiki'.
