Northern sea oats is a clump-forming, perennial grass with broad foliage that looks somewhat like bamboo. The leaves turn coppery-brown in the fall, and the flat flowers dangle gracefully on the ends of the sturdy stems.
This is a popular waterside plant. It thrives in well-drained, average to moist soil with sun or part shade. Also known as River Oats, Indian Wood Oats, Spangle Grass, and Uniola latifolia. Hardy in zones 4-9.
