This bright red, medium-size tomato is good for canning. The attractive, 6-8 oz. fruits are crack-resistant. But as far as fresh eating goes, I think it's a little watery and lacking in flavor. But maybe it was just our weather this year. Other people describe it as having an old-fashioned tomato flavor.
Rutgers is a fairly disease-resistance variety. It was introduced in 1934 as a cross between J.T.D. and Marglobe. Also known as Rugers VFA.
