Dalea pupurea is a native perennial wildflower with magenta-purple flowers in early summer. Plant it near the front of the border where you can admire the intricate flowers up close. It looks stunning with golden-yellow flowers like coreopsis or Ratibida columifera.

Dalea purpurea is an important host plant for several butterfly species, including Marine Blue, Reakirt's Blue, and Southern Dogface.

Dalea purpurea is a member of the legume family, so it improves soil by fixing nitrogen. It is drought tolerant and adaptable to a wide range of conditions.

Also known as Petalostemon purpureum, Purple Prairie Clover, and Violet Prairie Clover. Hardy in zones 3-9.
