HomeBlack Beauty eggplant has large, egg-shaped, purplish-black fruit that grow to 7" long. This is the standard variety that is often sold at farmers markets. It is late to mature, so it's best grown in areas with long summers. Harvest when the skin is still dark and shiny, before it turns a dull purple color.
American heirloom. Introduced by the Burpee seed company in 1902.
