Bean 'Arikara Yellow'

'Arikara Yellow' has golden-brown seeds that are wonderful for long-cooking dishes like baked beans, soups, and stews. The beans maintain their shape without becoming mushy, and they have a creamy texture and a rich, nutty flavor.

'Arikara Yellow' can also be eaten as a green snap bean, and it has the advantage of bearing early in the season. The plants are very productive and drought tolerant.

This historic heirloom was given to the Lewis and Clark Expedition by the Arikara tribe of North Dakota. It was passed on to Thomas Jefferson, who grew it at Monticello and praised it highly. Oscar Will introduced it to the public in his Pioneer Collection of seeds (1914).

Sowing Bush Bean Seeds

Sow bush bean seeds outdoors 2 weeks after the last frost date, 1" deep and 3" apart, in rows spaced 18" apart. Succession sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply of snap beans. Full sun.
