Bean 'Blooming Prairie'

'Blooming Prairie' is a dual-purpose bush bean with vivid purple filet pods and edible, dark pink flowers on burgundy stems. The deep green leaves have a purplish tint, and the whole plant is so pretty that I use it as a foliage plant in my flower garden.

The abundant 5- to 6-inch pods have good flavor for purple beans. They mature and go to seed quickly; I recommend succession sowing if you want to prolong the harvest. The creamy-white seeds, brushed with lavender, taste great in soups.

Sowing Bush Bean Seeds

Sow bush bean seeds outdoors 2 weeks after the last frost date, 1" deep and 3" apart, in rows spaced 18" apart. Succession sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply of snap beans. Full sun.
