Bull's Blood beet is grown primarily for its dark red leaves. You can begin harvesting the leaves for soups and salads at 35 days. The 3" wide, red roots are also tasty. They are best harvested when small.
Beet 'Bull's Blood' is recommended as a replacement for MacGregor's Favorite, which is an old heirloom beet with red foliage. Bull's Blood has wider leaves. It is pretty enough to be grown as an ornamental plant in the flower garden.
Sowing Beet Seeds
Sow beet seeds outdoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost date, 1/2" deep. Thin to 3-4" apart. Thinnings are good for salads. Full sun.
