Carrot 'Gniff'

'Gniff' is a small carrot with a purple exterior and pale yellow interior. It is slower to mature than most other carrots, making it good for fall harvesting and storage. Most people prefer to eat it cooked or juiced.

'Gniff' carrot is an heirloom from the Tessin region of Switzerland. It was saved from extinction by a farmer in a mountain village who shared the seeds with the Swiss seed cooperative Pro Specie Rara, which began selling it in the 1990s.

Sowing Carrot Seeds

Sow carrot seeds outdoors 3-6 weeks before the last frost date in deeply worked soil. Lightly cover the seeds with soil. Keep moist. Thin to 3" apart. Full sun.
