Carrot 'Red Cored Chantenay'

'Red Cored Chantenay' carrot has a rich flavor, an attractive shape, and a bright orange color, making it a joy to use in the kitchen. Try it fresh, frozen, or canned. The 6-inch roots are tapered and blunt with a red-orange core. This hefty carrot doesn't break off easily when digging, and it is recommended for heavy clay soil.

'Red Cored Chantenay' carrot originated in France in the 1870s. It was introduced to the U.S. by the Burpee Seed Company in 1929.

Sowing Carrot Seeds

Sow carrot seeds outdoors 3-6 weeks before the last frost date in deeply worked soil. Lightly cover the seeds with soil. Keep moist. Thin to 3" apart. Full sun.
