Datura inoxia

Datura inoxia has huge, trumpet-shaped, pearly-white flowers with a sweet fragrance. The annual plants grow rapidly with a bush-like habit, spreading up to 6 feet across. The velvety leaves are a soft gray-green.

The flowers open in the evening and fade by the following afternoon. They attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and sphinx moths.

Datura inoxia grows best in sandy, well-drained soil in areas with hot summers. Native to the Southern states, Central America, and South America, this plant is hardy in zones 6-10. It is grown as an annual in cooler climates, where it often self-sows.

Common names include Angel's Trumpet, Devil's Trumpet, Toloache, and Moonflower. All parts of the plant are poisonous.

Sowing Datura Seeds

Start datura seeds indoors 8 weeks before the last frost date. Or sow outdoors in spring, 1/8" deep. Germinates at 75-80 degrees.
