Ipomopsis rubra is a native Texas wildflower with scarlet-red, trumpet-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds. The tall, narrow stems are covered with vivid blooms in late summer.

Ipomopsis rubra is a biennial that can be sown in autumn in the south. It blooms the first year if the seeds are started early indoors, so it can be grown as an annual in colder zones. It self sows in my zone 5 garden, and it needs well-drained soil.
