Lettuce 'Blushed Butter Oak'

Blushed Butter Oak lettuce has oak-shaped, green leaves with a pinkish-red blush. The blushing increases as the plants mature. It is very pretty, and the flavor is excellent. In a 2025 taste test, it beat all the other lettuces we grew. It lacks heat-tolerance, but it performs well in cold weather.

Blushed Butter Oak is an open-pollinated lettuce developed by Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seed.

Sowing Lettuce Seeds

Sow lettuce seeds outdoors in early spring. Sow in very shallow furrows, and lightly cover with soil. Thin to 8" apart. Full sun to part shade.
