Noir des Carmes melon has deeply ribbed fruits with a black-green skin that turns mottled orange when ripe. The orange flesh has a complex flavor and lovely aroma. To avoid splitting, don't overwater near harvest time. The fruits weigh 3 pounds.

Sowing Melon Seeds

Sow melon seeds outdoors one week after the last frost date, 1/2" deep. Space plants 2 feet apart in rows. Or sow in hills spaced 4-6 feet apart. Thin to 3 plants per hill. Full sun.
