Penstemon nitidus

Penstemon nitidus is a small beardtongue with bright blue flowers in early summer. It is native to meadows in the midwestern and mountain states.

Penstemon nitidus is one of the hardiest species we sell. It needs well-drained soil, and the small size makes it perfect for rock gardens. My plants actually bloomed a second time in late summer.
