Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Violet Bells'

Pulsatilla 'Violet Bells' is a cheerful sight in early spring. The 6-petalled, violet-purple flowers with gold stamens look like a child's crayon drawing of a flower. The gray-green foliage is attractive, as are the ripening seedheads.

Pulsatilla vulgaris looks great in rock gardens, along the edge of a path, or at the front of the border where the flowers can be admired up close. It makes a lovely companion plant for daffodils.

Start seeds indoors in late winter. Lightly cover the seeds with soil, then refrigerate for 3 weeks. Slow to germinate. All parts are poisonous.
