'Blue Shift' is a color-changing sweet pea that ages from purple-violet to shades of mauve and blue. The breeder says, "This is the 'bluest' colour that exists currently in sweet peas." This marvelous variety also has a strong fragrance.
Sweet Pea 'Blue Shift' was bred by Dr. Keith Hammett of New Zealand, whose work focuses on creating highly fragrant, heat-tolerant sweet peas that perform well in gardens. 'Blue Shift' certainly grew well for us and produced an abundance of seeds, despite an extraordinarily hot summer.

Sowing Sweet Pea Seeds
Start seeds indoors or sow outdoors 8 weeks before the last frost date, 1/2" deep and 4" apart. In the south, sow in late fall. If starting in pots, move to a sheltered location outside when most of the seedlings appear (before the leaves unfurl). Bring indoors if temperatures drop below 20 degrees. Transplant 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost date. Full sun to part shade. Seeds and all parts of the plants are poisonous.
Home-grown seeds.
