'Wilson Sweet' watermelon is a wonderful variety that deserves to be grown more often. The deep crimson flesh is sweet and crisp, and the marbled rind is beautiful. The round fruits weigh 10 to 20 pounds and ripen in midseason (late August in our Zone 5b garden).
'Wilson Sweet' ripens its fruits in succession, instead of all at once, giving you time to eat them. You can read the story of this marvelous heirloom in an article by Amy Goldman Fowler. I also recommend her melon book.
Sowing Watermelon Seeds
