Celosia 'Sokoyokoto'

Celosia 'Sokoyokoto' is a wonderful annual that is both ornamental and edible. The spikes of ruby-pink flowers can be used for cut flower arrangements. They also attract beneficial insects. The bushy plants grow up to 5 feet tall, making it a good choice for hedges.

Celosia 'Sokoyokoto' is also known as Lagos Spinach because the leaves are a good spinach substitute. For best quality, they should be picked before the plants flower. Like amaranth greens, they are eaten cooked and are usually added to soups and stews. They are the most popular cooked green in Nigeria. The flowers can be used to make a pink tea. Add a little lemon and honey.

This celosia can self-sow abundantly, so consider its placement in the garden. It is not a concern if you are only growing it for greens.
