Lilium regale

Lilium regale was the first Chinese trumpet lily introduced to the United States. The fragrant, trumpet- shaped flowers are white with a maroon reverse and butter-yellow throats.

Lilium regale blooms a little earlier than other trumpet lilies. It prefers rich, well-drained soil, and it grows well in large containers, which can be overwintered in a garage. This is the best way to grow lilies in areas with poor soil or gopher problems. I use 7-gallon nursery pots.

Sowing Lilium regale Seeds

Start lily seeds indoors 10 weeks before the last frost date. Sow 1/4" deep. Germination begins in about 4 weeks.
