HomeCrosby's Egyptian beet is our favorite. It has a fine texture and a sweet, rich flavor that we adore. The dark red roots are shaped like a flattened globe or a flat-topped heart.
Josiah Crosby of Massachusetts improved the original Egyptian beet strain that was popular in the 1860's and introduced this new strain in 1885. Also known as Crosby's Early Egyptian.
Sowing Beet 'Crosby's Egyptian' Seeds
Sow seeds outdoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost date, 1/2" deep. Thin to 3-4" apart. Thinnings are good for salads. Full sun.
